the idea of me having an extramarital affair
Just now talking to my wife, I postulated, in the most hypothetical, imaginary sense, the idea of me having an extramarital affair. After contemplating this possibility for a couple seconds, we both burst into laughter, and I admitted that the idea of me having an extramarital affair is preposterous. My wife extended this assertion by suggesting that the idea of me having a marital affair is preposterous, too. I'm not exactly sure what she meant by that.
